DigiNovations Brings Drones to Harvard for HUBWeek, Captures Crowd Aerial Selfie

Posted by Catie Foertsch

DigiNovations was thrilled to be invited to demo our drones at the ‘Making Robots Fly’ event held at Harvard Stadium on October 10, co-hosted by Harvard Business School, the X-Fund, and Harvard John A Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Interest in drones for commercial purposes (such as video) is exploding, and regulators are looking to register drones to curtail mischief and irresponsible activity. The event was a reminder that some drone pilots and owners are professionals who behave responsibly.

DigiNovations founder (and licensed pilot) Michael Kolowich brought two of Digi’s drones to demo, and filmed a video selfie – the first ever taken at Harvard Stadium. The photo above is extracted from the video – here’s the full selfie (it's 42 sec long):

“The biggest challenge right now in the drone ecosystem is getting permission from the FAA to use drones commercially,” said Kolowich.

Certification by the FAA is now required to fly drones commercially - including for the purposes of capturing aerial video. DigiNovations has THREE FAA-certified drone pilots on staff.
And, we’ve received a Certificate of Authorization from the FAA to fly our drones commercially. This means Digi is authorized by the FAA to use its drones to capture video for its clients – either as stand-alone video, or as part of a larger video production.

The “Making Robots Fly” event also included drone racing, drone package delivery, and drone photography. DigiNovations brought our DJI Inspire One, N617MK to the Harvard event. We also own and operate two Inspire One Pro drones. All three of our drones capture 4k video.

We provide drone video production for many of our clients. For more information on how drone video can enhance your video project, give us a call. We’d love to talk about what our drones can do for your video!
